Ceejai Julian reflects on the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls

Ceejai’s life has been marked by tragedy. She lost two sisters to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside — the first, Norma George, in 1992. Ceejai tells the story of how,as a young girl, she would try pull Norma George away from her life of drugs and prostitution. The last time Ceejai saw her sister on the street, she was told her to “go home, baby girl.”

Her sisters naked body was found dumped 10 days later.

“If I knew that was the last time I was going to see my sister I would not have let go of her,” says Ceejai.

Ceejai shared her story with others at the Peoples Gathering at the Roundtable for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Ottawa.
